My brain seems to be easily wired for music, but art is always uphill.

My friend ‪@leandrotomascuadra.bsky.social‬ got his account suspended for 'impersonation' for speaking up about abuse. Right now you can get accounts suspended or penalized if you mobilize - say, a Discord server to mass report. The moderation team never answers e-mails or explains why.

Just as mysteriously as his account went down, it came back up after he sent proof of his ID. But neither before nor after did the moderation team interact with him, send instructions, or apologize. Bsky has a serious crybully problem and zero transparency in moderation.

If they had a lifetime tier for their iPad offering, I'd totally be game.

This. It's a very egregious case of survivorship bias- one that will meet a very hard wall as our economy starts to spiral and disposable income shrinks drastically. The condescending attitude is very off-putting.

The best faith assumption is that it comes from a place of unawareness from someone who is fortunate enough to find a small niche that sustains her financially (for now), and assumes hers is an easily-replicated formula. Hitting a situation like that early on can warp your perspective of others.

Nonfurry spaces are very different. And usually what gets people into that financial spot in furry spaces is porn. Not only are some people just not interested in drawing porn all the time... that market is about to be targeted out of existence by the GOP soon.

"If someone isn't making it they're just not trying" is a very common assumption that presumes there is a static formula for lightning in a bottle. A lot of variables they ignore- living 'comfortably' in AR, for example, has a much lower financial threshold than, say, CO due to cost of living.

You can buy a house in some southern states for a fraction of the Colorado cost. But most people can't just pull up sticks and move to a cheaper state. Even if they could, many queer individuals wouldn't be welcomed in the cheap states, so survival becomes costly.

So "I did it, you should too" is very shortsighted when there's no discussion of factors such as safety net from family or partners, living situation, what state you're in, underlying health conditions, and what niche you're serving.

And how suitable are your skills to that niche. I couldn't be a porn artist- my interests are along the suggestive and sexy instead of the outright 'here's a giant dong and oceans of spoo' that's everywhere in the fandom. So that already parses me out of the top cash in the fandom, as an example.

But finally, the assumption that being a BAFTA-winning artist immediately translates into huge monetization in other fields, or the indie sector, is myopic. Only a very small cross-section of people who follow will cross-follow an artist into different fields.

So, on the whole, Punkitt's attitude comes across as very short-sighted and condescending, and immature. I don't think that's how she intended to come across, but it'd be a disservice to her to not point out how it all unpacks.

I think you're doing a bit- if you are, though, it gets a little lost in the text because tone isn't present over a textual medium unless you push it past the 'subtle' stage.

Or that a BAFTA award is somehow the golden key to fame.
That's like saying my voice teacher is famous because she was named Teacher of the Year by Classical Singer magazine instead of it being because she headlined at the Met.
It's a nice recognition from the industry-the public isn't the industry.

I should point out that I had my FA account since 2007, so it wasn't that I was some rando. However, I've never done the popufur game, so I was safe to ban. And the majority of popufurs don't have the balls to speak up for fear of losing platform, so 'Neer gets the rose-colored treatment.

Pretty much. The fandom has a toxic tendency to lionize assholes like Neer and forget about the people who actually helped pay the foundations, like Tigerwolf (the greymuzzle owner or Tigerden, not the Canadian jackass who went by that name as well)

Some further background- I left a country that capsized under populist autocracy. Most people who've had similar backgrounds, most are saying the same thing for a reason. This is like nothing you have faced so far.

There are a lot of writers who are completely unaware of what story beats they have locked themselves into, and fail to recognize the preamble of a dystopic genre despite having gobbled it up for years.

It's just a waiting room for demonic possession hosts.

It is the height of hypocrisy to bemoan that this site "conflates conflict and harm" when you were party to getting someone banned because they entered into conflict with you by telling you what you did.

I'd be more specific, but I don't want to get suspended for "harassment."

This is Bsky. Anything remotely like that gets you banned. My husband's acct got permanently banned for naming people who had abused him and what they did. They weaponized their discord and brigade-reported him. No appeal e-mail has ever been answered.

I got targeted as well, at one point suspended for "impersonating"- myself? Another friend who was speaking up also got suspended for the same, and supportive friends had their posts removed for "violations"-- what violations? Your guess is as good as mine.

Moderation here is a joke. All it takes is a large enough number of people brigade-reporting and Bsky will take your account down. If you look at their VERY nebulous TOS they're rolling out, notice they don't define what constitutes "harassment" at all? That's by design.

Victims naming their abusers with evidence is a bannable offense because "harassment", Jesse expressing the mildest discontent towards Rowling is a "threat". Bluesky pretends to be safe- but it's the social media of the brigade trolls. I can't speak up about my husband anymore, lest I be targeted.

It is clear they don't do research, they merely take the number of reports into consideration, and the extremely vague and undefined terms of the TOS, and pull the plug.

That's what I gathered. It looks like a furry doodled briefly on it and then sold it- I found it in the used books section at the bookstore.

Bluesky moderation has been weaponized for a long time to brigade-report ban. Moderation seems to be staffed by three potatoes and a hamster who go "# of reports = must ban" and no further investigation.

I mean, Korgsaard was right in this regard. The problem is that nobody told Matthew that he was also terrible at journalism.

The fact she has no literary comprehension kind of explains what her novels turned into once she got big enough to fire the editors who made the first three books tight, doesn't it?

She is basically the posterchild of "Someone had an okay idea, terrible execution, and a publisher saw dollar signs thinking they could shape a better author through heavy editing... and backfiring spectacularly."

Alfredo Kraus, the true king of 20th century tenors- one of my most prized possessions. He was an elegant, magnificent singer and a courteous and generous, if reserved, human being.

I've been an #operafurry since the 2010s. At the time, the fandom wasn't receptive to it at all. I kept doing my thing. Fast forward 15 years and suddenly opera furs are cool.

We all have really bad art days. I know you regretted posting that but I wanted to tell you-- that fox looked good. Frustration can make us perceive things as being worse than they are, and it sucks donkey balls. You're right, though, don't make decisions when angry or agitated.

Shanda Fantasy Arts were foundational for many of the early generations of the furry fandom. This is such sad news.

These are the people Terry Pratchett ridiculed in a lot of his books, and many people thought they were exaggerations.
If anything, Terry was being restrained in some of his portrayals of these nimrods.

My fan-canon got made part of Ultima Online canon.

I used to be in an #UltimaOnline private shard called Ultima Legacy, where we ran a plot that took place in distant Sosaria, where I wrote the lore of one of the founding families of Trinsic. 1/6

I played Donna Elvira Ondariva, a paladin of Trinsic. Her ancestors, the Ondarivas, had a hand in the founding of Trinsic- after a civil war between two warring factions of the great house. The warlord Belo Ondariva was defeated by Sabella Ondariva. 2/6

The stones from Belo's keeps were used to create the distinctive flagstones of Trinsic. It was a fun story.
And then, some goof at #ElectronicArts must have googled 'Sosarian Timeline' and yoinked our shard timeline.
Next thing you know... Samurai Empires. Belo Ondariva appears! 3/6

Once the notice started making the rounds that Belo was a fan creation, OSI wrapped the Ondariva plot RATHER QUICKLY.
I stopped playing UO after @richardgarriott.bsky.social left Origin, so I was completely unaware of this until someone told me. 4/6

By the time I made it to the Stratics board, the dust had settled and Belo Ondariva had been hastily swept under the rug.
I had a big laugh, though, at the mess EA had made of the Ultima franchise, they didn't even know the IP history. I thought they couldn't do worse.

The Bacchanalia is the Pagan celebration of the Roman god Bacchus, the counterpart to the Greek Dyonisos, gods of revelry, one, ecstasy, etc.
I'm an opera singer, so I usually scour the classical music vocal repertoire for my selections. 1/

"Tonal" music is organized around a single, central note (the "key"), which provides a sense of "home" and direction. All of the mainstream pop music, and a good chunk of classical music up until the 20th century, so Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, etc, were tonal. Example: youtu.be/u2qkw21z5Rg?...

Now, the MAJORITY of religious classical works are Christian. The Pagan revival wouldn't happen until the 19th century, most famous classical sacred works were written around the 18/19th century. The famous 'Hallelujah' choir, for example, is from Handel's "Messiah": youtu.be/weFJHtcxJt0?...

This means that any Pagan-themed religious classical works wouldn't have been written until after the 19th century, and would most likely be atonal and 'experimental.'. One example is Iannis Xenakis' "Oresteia" youtu.be/1S3E72lNlWU?...

Now, not all modern music is atonal, and lately there's been movements that mix experimental approaches with tonality that are much more emotionally resonant, like Thomas Koppel's work: youtu.be/SVB6zaYubSQ?...

But, by and large, it seems that any Pagan sacred works written by any modern classical composers have fallen in the 'weird harmony/melody' experimental school, so not something that would *stick*, like Norma's prayer to the moon goddess from this 19th century opera: youtu.be/yzirPbCvc0Q?...

I love your art. I see some influence of Terrie Smith in it- I don't know if that's intentional or not, but that's always an A+ in my book.

The atonal school's precept of holding all tones as equal instead of specific centers felt as effective as considering all words in a sentence, or a language, as having equal functional weight. It's an interesting exercise, but it will never have actual emotional weight.

And I finished it.

And god, it hit me hard. It made me YEARN for a new Terry book, and a new book with the witches. The marginalia between Granny and Nanny felt so good and so familiar, but also new at the same time, like any good Discworld book.

A baroque-style piece- only in the trappings. Structurally, it doesn't follow the form at all. The ripieno (Queen) keeps trying to bring structure back but the violin (Cat) soloist won't let it, until the concerto gives up.

I've never found something comparable. Loreena basically travelogued and researched every album and included ethnic influences from the regions she traveled. It's what makes each album unique- she's a scholar-bard in her approach. Which influenced how I write music.

I'll look them up! When I was a teen I dreamed of being a composer in the style of Loreena, making each album a book of themes. I didn't really start composing again until a year ago, so now I'm determined to make that happen.

I'll also point out that we would never have been able to expose the identities of two KFers if we weren't watching what was being said about us on those forums, and tracking accounts.

It's almost like she doesn't want people to do that.

I went to a Jesuit highschool - I've totally seen it! Replacing those can be pretty expensive, the decent ones run at like 13K or something like that.

Oh yeah! My highschool was one those that aimed to be affordable, so tuition rates were super low, they had subsidized attendance for low-income children, and everything was kind of very old. No AC... in Ecuador. The monstrance and chalice were the most expensive things in that school, and *old*.

Yeah, the bringing of the Monstrance is level 10,000 of The Audacity, and definitely a Means Business move. I went to a Jesuit school, I'm a non-believer, but *massive* respect for this move.

The best approximation I've found for simulating pianistic Anschlag in Musescore is to essentially micromanage dynamics down to the granular level for audio generation. This creates an engraving nightmare, but fortunately you can make certain dynamics invisible for publication.

I love the composition, and how there is so much going on and yet it does not feel crowded or stifling at all!

My favorite professor during my Master's was Dr. Christian, for Research Methods. That class was awesome.

My best friend, Captain Coloratura, and I, just stared at her, jaws to the floor. A grown-ass mid-twenties woman throwing a tantrum over a credit... while being dead wrong about it.
And then she claimed afterwards the professor condescended to her because she was a woman.
No, you were a child.

To this day, "Verdi *IS* Verismo!" with a snarky tone is a go-to phrase for us for someone who is so dead wrong and saying it with their full chest.

By the way- the professor who allegedly condescended to her because she was a woman... was a gay man.

Many of the images are 3d generated without AI, according to the stock footage service I use. But if I find any of them do use AI, I will replace those particular ones faster than CBS dropped Jimmy the Greek.

Another HUGE influence on me as a composer was Loreena Mckennitt, who is still composing, playing, and singing, and sounding pretty much exactly the same at age 68. Go Loreena!

That's how people engineer getting people banned on Bsky. There is a certain YouTuber whose second-in-command organizes report mobs on their Discord server of anyone openly calling them out to get them banned or suspended because of how fucked Bsky moderation is.

They got me suspended one accusing me of impersonating myself. The second time around they tried, but I had migrated to BlackSky and I explained to their moderation what was going on and they reversed it within hours, not days like Bsky.

I got brigade-reported by abusive people for directly confronting them and challenging their BS stories. That is a cardinal sin in their book- so I get the 'rude' label.
I have a community of about 150 people combined between Discord and SL- but you don't see me weaponizing them.

I swear, my kingdom for a platform that runs its moderation rules through a D&D Rules Lawyer who can immediately identify how a system could be abused by someone playing the numbers game in order to silence people. But BlueSky sure ain't it.

My account is permanently hobbled because they won't remove the "rude" label for a similar "offense." So my posts are pretty much invisible to people with standard moderation settings.

It's actually pretty close to it being just as bad. You can get shadowbanned if enough people mass-report you if they want to keep you silent. It's employed by abusers here all the time, and moderation doesn't give a damn, unfortunately.

Appeal to moderation. I did. They told me to remove the offending material. I asked what it was because they never include links. They never responded. Go through my account and tell me what you see that is rude and offensive- your guess is as good as mine.
